Even though you may realize the benefits of self-care and truly know you need it, it can sometimes be a challenge to make it a lifestyle. Instead it becomes something we remember to do last minute, many times once we are close to the point of burn out.
Some of the common roadblocks with self-care that we have heard from our guests are: prioritizing self-care, consistency and finding the time.
Here are our recommendations on some ways to combat these challenges:
Figure out the "why"
Why is self-care important to you? Do you want to have more patience as a mom? Do you want to give more energy to your family and friends? Do you want to feel happier? Do you want to feel more confident on that date, or during a presentation or job interview?
Once you are clear on why self-care is important to you, you can start to view it as a non-negotiable in your schedule.
Finding the time
Make a list of your self- care activities. What time of day works best to incorporate these activities into your schedule?
Now, pencil them into your calendar for the next month minimum, 6 months even better.
For instance, if you want to get on a monthly routine having a facial, schedule your appointments at the most convenient time for you each month for the next 6 months. Our Lifestyle Memberships are perfect to help with this. They help hold you accountable to your self-care and you save some money while you're at it.
Lastly, boundaries.
Once you have made your self-care a priority and a non-negotiable, having boundaries and allowing yourself to say "No" to other things in order to care for yourself vital. And please do so without guilt, you are not only benefiting yourself but also everyone around you.
