Skin Health and Anti-Aging Benefits of Infrared Saunas

Here at Citron our mission is to create wellness and beauty, inside and out. We take a holistic approach to our guests' outer appearance and inner wellbeing by combining healthy effective skincare, infrared sauna use, relaxation and stress relieving treatments, outer beauty esthetics, and health and self-care mentoring on nutrition, exercise and healthy lifestyle choices.

One of our favorite inside-out approaches for wellness and beauty is the Anti-Aging infrared sauna program. Near infrared saunas provide the most effective wavelength for healing the epidermis and dermis layers of the skin, stimulating collagen production to reduce wrinkles and improve overall skin tone.

There are three different wavelengths available with an infrared sauna; near, mid and far. Each wavelength targets different depths of the tissue. Near infrared targets the skin’s epidermis and dermis most effectively. Research shows that when energy is delivered at this wavelength of 880nm, near infrared promotes collagen production, skin renewal, improvement in cell health, and tissue growth.

The Sunlighten 3 in 1 mPulse available at Citron offers the Anti-Aging program that includes LED (light emitting diodes) near infrared lights. LEDs were originally developed for NASA in order to grow plants in space, replicating the sun.

There was a study published in The Journal of Cosmetic and Laser Therapy showing major improvements in skin health and appearance. The study was based on 12 weeks of sauna skin therapy using the anti-aging program with near infrared technology. Participants reported a reduction in wrinkles and crow’s feet, as well as improved overall skin tone, softness, smoothness, elasticity, clarity and firmness.

Skin Health Benefits

Acne

Infrared saunas can help improve acne and the appearance of acne scarring through near LED infrared technology as well as prevent future breakouts. By sweating out impurities such as dirt, dead skin cells, oil and debris (the things that typically cause acne), the pores are cleansed and acne is prevented. A facial or just a quick cleanse right after your sauna session can help ensure the pores do not clog up again.

Skin Detoxification

Infrared saunas are clinically proven to penetrate the skin to reach deeper levels, removing toxins, dead skin cells, dirt, bacteria and oils. The infrared technology heats the body to its core, causing a detoxifying sweat containing toxins that would typically create a host of skin and health problems.

Tone and Texture

In a study done in 2006, researchers studied the increase of collagen and elastin in our skin with infrared sauna use. Collagen and elastin are the top factors that keep our skin wrinkle-free and youthful looking. The study found that both collagen and elastin increased after infrared sauna use, and all patients included in the study reported enhanced skin texture, less roughness, and improvement in color.

Appearance of Scars

Near infrared LED light promoted cellular turnover and the delivery of oxygen to damaged cells, improving the appearance of scaring. .Studies show there is an improvement in wound healing and human tissue growth.

So if your thinking of reserving an anti-aging infrared sauna session, ready, sweat, glow!
