How to Build Your Fall Skin Care Ritual

The cool crisp air is finally here, we have our comfy sweaters, hot tea, and warm soup ready to go. Fall is also a season where we feel a transition- in our environment, the return to school, and the return to a more structured/demanding schedule. The passing of time becomes more evident as we watch the leaves change and the nights grow longer. This is the perfect time to spend some time resting and reflecting when we are ushered indoors.

As our minds and bodies feel the transition of the season, we may notice we feel a little scattered at times and our skin is on the drier side with the lack of summer humidity. Activities that make us feel grounded can help ease stress and anxiety and a good fall skincare regimen can help our skin feel quenched and nourished and give us some peaceful quiet time for self-care.

Start with the basics

If you are just getting started with a skincare regimen, the top three products we recommend are a cleanser, toner, and moisturizer.

In the fall, most people will want a cleanser that is formulated for dry or dull skin. We love the Glo Skin Beauty Gentle Cream Cleanser and Hydra-Bright Cleanser. The Gentle Cream Cleanser removes dirt and debris while protecting the skin’s moisture barrier and it’s also great for soothing any sensitivity or irritation. The Hydra-Bright Cleanser is wonderful if you are feeling like your skin is starting to look a little dull but is not overly dry. The vegan lactic acid gives the skin a nice brightening boost.

A hydrating toner to add some dewiness back into the skin during the fall will help you look and feel nourished. The HA Hyaluronic Mist contains hyaluronic acid and coconut water- both highly effective at quenching dry skin. If you have been doing peels again or your skin is feeling a little sensitive from the change in seasons, the Phyto Calm Flower Mist will instantly soothe the skin with rose water and chamomile while boosting moisture levels.

A great fall moisturizer should be a medium weight. Generally, you won’t start needing a heavier moisturizer until winter. We love the Hydra-Bright Hydrator if you are trying to achieve a radiant, dewy glow, the HA Revive Hyaluronic Hydrator if you are feeling more dry and need the quenching action of hyaluronic acid, and the Phyto-Calm Aloe Hydrator if you are experiencing some irritation this time of year.

Shed some skin

A good exfoliant in the fall will help increase cellular turnover, which will remove dry, dead skin cells more frequently, revealing new healthy skin. An exfoliant that also contains soothing ingredients is wonderful for fall. We of course love the Pumpkin Enzyme Scrub to get us into the fall spirit with delicious smelling pumpkin extract enzymes and niacinamide that smooths, brightens, and reduces the appearance of fine lines.

Fall is also the perfect time of year for peels because there is less sun to contend with. We love pairing peels with facials for a holistic experience. Our Fall Synergy Facial featuring localy sourced orange peel, juniper berry, and marshmallow root, includes a level one peel and is specifically designed to balalnce fall skin and wellness- a perfect monthly addition to your fall skincare ritual.

Add some serums

Hydrating, brightening, and soothing serums that calm any irritation that can occur from the transition of seasons are great for fall. HA Hyaluronic Drops are wonderful for boosting moisture levels, while plumping and strengthening. Hydra-Bright Alpha Arbutin drops will combat uneven, lackluster skin, if you notice your complexion starts looking a little dull in the fall. Phyto-Calm Aloe Drops are perfect to soothe, soften, and enhance moisture for a reinvigorated radiance. These are also great if you are adding some peels to your regimen in the fall.

You may even find that you experience a few break outs here and there when seasons transition. This can happen if there is less humidity in the air which makes the skin drier, signaling your sebaceous glands to produce more oil. The change itself can irritate the skin and acne is a form of irritation. But no worries, the Beta Clarity BHA drops contain retinol, glycolic acid, and salicylic acid for clear, bright skin.

Enhance the experience

Fall is the perfect time to make your skincare ritual into an at home spa experience. Run a hot bath with some epsom salts and grounding essential oils or herbs like rosemary. While you soak, apply a face mask for fall skin like the Restorative Mask for deep nourishment and a radiance reset. Use some soft face cloths for aromatic compresses soaked in hot water and a couple of drops of essential oil to press into the skin while breathing deeply for a relaxing mask removal. To cool off while boosting your immune system and prepare for fall colds, sip on a cold ginger elixir. You might also like a chilled gua sha face massage to help stimulate lymphatic drainage and give your skin a lift.
