I like to use the sponge analogy; if you have a dry sponge (our skin) and add water (hyaluronic acid) to it, it will expand 1,000 time its size with water. Hyaluronic acid helps water bind to collagen which is the primary support structure of the skin that also retains moisture, responsible for nearly 70% of the skin’s volume. The presence of hyaluronic acid therefore, results in soft, plump, hydrated, dewy skin.
As we age, our bodies start producing less hyaluronic acid, less collagen, and dead skin cells turn over at a slower rate. This is why it is important to start supplementing with targeted skin care products as a preventative and reparative method.
