What Does It Actually Mean to Age Well?

For a long time, the conversation around aging, especially for women, has centered on what we should be trying to prevent- such as preventing the wrinkle, correcting the spot, and look younger.
What if the goal is simply to age well?
At Citron, healthy aging is something we think about from both the inside and the outside. Yes, we care about skin health, collagen, hydration, pigmentation, texture, and helping your skin look vibrant and healthy as it changes.
But we also care about how you feel in your body and understnad how both are connected.
Are you sleeping well, constantly carrying tension, and recovering from stress
Are you taking care of your body before it is demanding for your attention?
Do you have routines that make you feel grounded, energized, and at peace with yourself?
Because when you feel better, it often shows.
Looking Good and Feeling Good Aren’t Separate Things
I’ve always believed there’s a very real look-good, feel-good effect, but I think it works in both directions.
Sometimes taking care of the outside changes how we feel on the inside. You leave a facial with your skin glowing, put on an outfit you love, get your hair done or simply take a little extra time getting ready, and you carry yourself differently.
And just as importantly (if not more importantly), caring for the inside changes what we see on the outside.
You finally get a good night’s sleep, your shoulders drop after a massage, you move your body, you eat in a way that gives you energy, you spend an hour away from your phone, you laugh with someone you love, and you feel less depleted.
There is a vitality that comes from feeling well.
To me, that is part of beauty.
It's not about perfection, looking 25 forever, or erasing every visible sign that you’ve lived.
Feeling comfortable in your skin, cared for, confident, and having energy for your life makes a difference for anyone. Looking in the mirror, you feel happy because you’re taking care of the person looking back at you.
Healthy Skin Is Part of Healthy Aging
Of course, skin is a big part of what we do at Citron.
Our skin changes as we age, and those changes can be influenced by many things like sun exposure, hormones, lifestyle, stress, sleep and our skincare habits among them.
That’s why our approach isn’t about chasing every new treatment or trying to “fix” aging skin. It’s about understanding what your skin needs now and supporting it appropriately.
Sometimes that means hydration and barrier support, addressing pigmentation or texture, and professional exfoliation. Sometimes it means introducing more advanced treatments and ingredients as your skin goals evolve.
That thinking is part of why we've expanded our Advanced Facial Menu- due to launch this week.
We want to be able to meet guests at different points in their skin journey, from someone who wants a beautiful, restorative facial and healthier skin to someone who is ready for more targeted, advanced care.
The goal is to help your skin function and look its best at every stage and every age.

Aging Well Is Bigger Than Skincare
You can have the most sophisticated skincare routine in the world and still feel exhausted, stressed and disconnected from your body.
One of the reasons massage has always been such an important part of Citron is that caring for the body can support something we don't necessarily see in a before-and-after photograph.
It gives us an opportunity to slow down and deeply restore.
Massage can help ease muscular tension and support relaxation and recovery, and there is something valuable about simply having an hour when you aren't accomplishing anything for anyone else.
I think that kind of inner wellness can translate into outer vitality because how we feel affects how we move through the world.
When we feel rested, cared for and more at ease in our bodies, there is a different energy about us, and I think that can be beautiful.
Sleep, Stress and Recovery Count, Too
When people think about a wellness routine, they often think about all the things they need to do.
But aging well also requires recovery: sleep, rest, managing the amount of stress we're carrying, and creating little periods where our nervous system isn't constantly being stimulated.
This doesn't mean we can eliminate stress from our lives, but it does mean we can get better at balancing periods of output with periods of restoration.
That might be a monthly massage, an evening walk, an infrared sauna session, going to bed earlier, or protecting ten quiet minutes in the morning for hot lemon water and breathwork.
Consistency Over Perfection
This is an important part of our philosophy around healthy aging. You do not need to do everything perfectly. You don't need a perfect skincare routine, diet, exercise program, sleep schedule, and perfectly optimized wellness life.
Most of us couldn't sustain that even if we wanted to.
What tends to matter more is what we can do consistently. When you fall out of your routine with something, as all of us do, you consistently come back to it.
It can also help to create little triggers that make those healthy choices easier to come back to. Maybe your skincare happens right after you brush your teeth, your supplements sit next to the coffee maker, you take a walk after dinner, before the month gets busy your massage is already on the calendar while your kids are at dance or dad is picking them up from school. These small cues can take some of the decision-making out of caring for yourself, and over time, those repeated choices become part of the consistent rhythm of your life.
That's also why we created Citron memberships, because sometimes automatically putting something supportive on the calendar makes it much easier to actually prioritize it and look forward to.
Maybe Aging Well Is Really About Living Well
The older I get, the less interested I am in perfection.
I’m much more interested in feeling strong, healthy, energetic, and comfortable in my own skin. I want to take care of myself in ways that allow me to show up well for my family, my work, the people I love, and for myself.
I think happiness, confidence, and taking care of yourself because you value yourself is beautiful.
