The Gentle Reset: Post-Holiday or Vacation Rituals for Detoxing + Recharging

ree

There’s nothing better than a long weekend or summer getaway. The sunshine, late nights, celebratory meals (and drinks), and a much-needed change of pace. But even the most joyful moments can leave us feeling a little off.

After travel, indulgent meals, and time away from routines, your body and skin might be in need of a little reset. You might notice some puffiness, dull skin, bloating, mental fog, or lack of energy and that’s ok, it’s your body’s way of asking for support.

Our approach to recharging at Citron is never harsh or restrictive. We like to  embrace gentle, yet effective rituals that help your body detox naturally, restore clarity, and feel rebalanced—inside and out.

I am about to go away to the Poconos for a week for my daughters' dance competition, which means lots of fun with friends, excitement, and some indulging in yummy food and drinks with dance families. I am very much looking forward to a week away with my family, but also know when I return, I will need to rebalance by doing a little cleansing, getting back to my workout routines, and giving myself a little skin and nervous system support.

So here is the plan I have created for you and also the plan I fully intend to use myself:

1. Move + Sweat to Release Toxins + Stagnation

After periods of rest, rich food, or long car rides, our bodies crave circulation. A gentle sweat helps activate your lymphatic system and move out the toxins.

Try:

  • A morning walk in nature

  • A short jog or yoga flow to stretch and sweat

  • A lymphatic body brushing ritual followed by a warm shower

  • A 30-minute infrared sauna session to promote detoxification and deep relaxation

It’s ok if you’re not into extreme workouts. You just need enough movement to release stagnation and bring your energy back.

2. Rehydrate + Mineralize

A gentle detox starts with hydration, but plain water isn’t always enough.

After travel or indulgent eating, your body often needs electrolytes and minerals to fully rehydrate.

Try this morning reset:

  • 1 glass of water with fresh citrus and a pinch of sea salt

  • Herbal iced tea like dandelion root, nettle, or hibiscus to support liver and kidney function

  • Light seasonal meals with hydrating produce (think cucumber, arugula, berries, and herbs)

I love our Hibiscus Flower Ginger Elixir with sparkling water over ice with mint and lime. We offer our Hibiscus Elixir in the spa retail boutique, and all guests enjoy a complimentary wellness shot after their summer spa treatments.

3. Support + Rejuvenate the Skin

After sun, SPF, and travel, your skin might be feeling congested, dry, or dull. One of the most effective ways to “detox” your skin isn’t through harsh scrubs or chemicals, it’s by nourishing it and enhancing its natural healing processes.

You can support your skin’s natural renewal with hydration, gentle exfoliation, and botanical-rich products that help it repair, release, and glow without stressing or stripping with aggressive procedures.

At-home skin reset ideas:

  • A morning and evening summer-skin focused skin-care ritual

  • Chilled hydrating mask with aloe or calendula (my favorite is the Soothing Gel Mask by Glo)

  • Facial Gua Sha with a botanical oil

  • A cooling mist stored in the fridge for refreshing throughout the day (the HA-Revive Hyaluronic Mist or Flower Mist are lovely)

Or, set aside a little time for yourself to enjoy a full skin and nervous system reboot with our:

Summer Botanical Citrus Facial– Calming calendula + orange peel oil– Brightening flower enzyme peel (gentle, no downtime)– Facial massage, hand and foot massage, scalp massage, and deep hydration

Summer Botanical Citrus Body Remedy– Dry brushing and calendula orange peel body polish– Aloe hydration mask– Warm botanical oil massage with hot stones, scalp, and facial massage

These treatments go beyond the surface; they’re designed to restore your skin and your parasympathetic nervous system after high-energy days.

4. Create a Rebalancing Ritual

Turning the reset into something you can return to every week is really key.

Ideas to ground and recharge:

  • 10-minute guided meditation with a cooling mask and herbal tea

  • A walk without your phone (just you, some fresh air, and a moment to pause)

  • A journaling session on the deck with iced tea and deep breaths

  • A nightly wind-down routine with warm body oil and a cool face mist

Remember that gentle consistency always outperforms and outlasts quick fixes.

You don’t need a full-blown juice cleanse or boot camp to get back on track. Some gentle yet consistent support, wellness intention, and space to recalibrate can do wonders. Whether that’s a quiet sauna session, a nourishing spa visit, or a walk with a glass of infused water, intentionally caring for your mind and body daily will improve your overall wellness
